2022 Holiday Gift Guide

Our 2022 holiday gift guide is here!  We’ve found the perfect gifts for everyone on your list, from the in-laws who love hosting to your favorite neighbor.  Even better, we’ve provided you with links so you can shop from the comfort of your coziest chair.  Of course, we are huge fans of shopping small and supporting local businesses, so we hope that you’ll join us this year!

The GSID 2022 Holiday Gift Guide

Everything from Estelle Colored Glass is gorgeous, but we’re seriously in love with their classic champagne coupes.  They’re available in a range of colors from soft pastels to rich jewel tones, and can be purchased as either a pair or a set of six.  They’re ideal for celebratory bubbly (or mocktails) and look beautiful arranged on a bar cart, sideboard, or built-in.

Zahav is still one of Philadelphia’s hottest restaurants, and you can give the gift of Michael Solomonov’s iconic dishes with the Zahav cookbook!  This is a surefire winning gift for a foodie in your life who appreciates the local restaurant scene.  Go the extra mile and add some fun spices or chic appetizer plates (like the sharing plates from Remark Glass) for their homemade mezze.

For those who love to gift experiences, look no further: local chandlery (don’t you love that word?) Old City Candle Company offers workshops!  This local treasure offers a few options, from a basic candle making workshop to more niche events including an Affirmation & Scent workshop as well as a Candle & Wine workshop.  What better way to personalize spaces at home than by creating a custom scent?

While you can’t give the gift of creativity, you can gift this gorgeous leather wrap journal from the Philadelphia Museum of Art store.  It’s ideal for journaling, drawing, sketching, and jotting down ideas.  This handmade journal uses scrap leather in a nod to eco-friendly practices, and ties securely with a stitched leather strap to make traveling with it easy.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that nature provides calming, healing, and grounding energy in our lives.  During the winter, it’s easy to lose sight of that, which is why the Sola cubes from Rikumo (which moved from Center City to the Main Line) offer a beautiful way to maintain the connection and remember that spring is closer than we think.  Each specimen is perfectly preserved in polished acrylic.  The cubes can be displayed on a desk or table alone, or with one of the custom Sola display stands that Rikumo offers.

What makes Girl Holding a Pen’s ornaments different from so many other personalized options available?  Lauren combines elegant calligraphy with local landmarks, zip codes and towns from Philadelphia to the Main Line, and artful sketches of beach scenes like lighthouses and lifeguard boats from beloved shore points.  The classic black-and-white porcelain designs will look just as lovely on a built-in shelf as a tree and are a chic way to say “this is home.”

Here are a few of our favorite local shops for you to browse online or check out in person this weekend while you join us in shopping small:
