High Point Market Spring 2021
After returning from High Point Market Spring 2021, we just have to say that it felt so good to be back! Reconnecting with old friends, making new acquaintances, and visiting showrooms in person was amazing. Of course, we took note of new trends, new looks, and new lines. Here’s what we saw making a splash in a big way.
High Point Market Spring 2021 trends and takeaways
Make it MCM
Mid-century modern influence was strong throughout Market. Squared off silhouettes, low-backed seating, and tapered wooden and metal legs were paired with upholstery in tweed, boucle, and MCM-inspired colors. This is one trend that is definitely here to stay!
Tons of texture
Texture isn’t just for upholstery; everything from seating to casegoods to accessories are all about touchability. Shagreen cocktail tables, dressers and chests with leather drawer pulls, and intricate sideboards marrying wood and metal not only appeal to the eye, but also make you want to run your hand over the surface. Upholstery kicked it up a notch with the rich wovens mentioned above, along with nubby and deep burnout fabrics that elevate the visual interest and the tactile experience. This conversational seating piece from Ambella is right at the top of our “love it, need it” list!
On the move
Motion seating – reclining, swiveling, and gliding – was everywhere. We spied this trend throughout showrooms like Vanguard, Universal, and Century. With so many people prioritizing comfort after spending months at home, vendors are responding with versatile, comfortable seating that is perfect in spaces from family rooms and dens to home theaters. This smart reclining chair from Universal Furniture has a kidney pillow that fits neatly behind your head when you tilt back; it’s ideal for a movie night in or just taking a nap.
Curves ahead
Speaking of comfort, curved sofas are so hot right now. We saw this trend emerging a couple of years back with gently curved backs, but now seats and arms are curving as well! The subtlety of the silhouettes feel lush and plush, relaxed yet upscale. Who wouldn’t want to sink into this gorgeous sectional from Ambella Home with its oversized, curved chaise? (We wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to keep it to yourself.)
We can’t wait to get back to High Point in the fall, but until then, what’s your favorite trend?
