Design detail: Painted vanities

Painted vanities are a simple way to elevate the look of any bathroom, whether it’s an en suite or a powder room.  We often talk about combining style and function, and this is a great example.  While a vanity is fundamentally utilitarian, it also provides a focal point in the design.  That means that we consider it as thoughtfully as we do tile, lighting, and paint or wallpaper.

Why opt for a customized vanity?

When we design a vanity, we look at it in much the same way that we do a furniture piece.  Yes, you can get one at a big box store, but the construction and finish likely won’t stand up to the test of time.  Our vanities are handcrafted, with a furniture finish paint comparable to other custom casegoods that we specify.  Your piece is not only well made and beautiful, but tailored exactly to your wants and needs.  In Villanova, we created a creamy white double vanity with a makeup area in the center.  It leans somewhat traditional, but fits beautifully with the luxury finishes in the master bath.

Another fantastic benefit to designing painted vanities is how we’re able to tailor them to fit with the overall design.  This crisp white is a perfect contrast to the snappy hot pink accents throughout our Wyndmoor girls’ bath.  It isn’t soft, like the Villanova vanity above.  This creates balance while keeping the vibrant fuchsia from overpowering the space.

Some clients select a timeless neutral paint in a shade of white or gray for a serene vibe, like in our Wynnewod en suite pictured in the header photo.  It flows with the Calacatta marble tiles and adds a feeling of quiet luxury.  On the other hand, we took the opportunity to make a bold statement in our West Chester powder room.  The glossy, sophisticated navy blue vanity steals the show in this space, and we’re thrilled that our clients love it!

What do you think of painted vanities for your home?  Do you lean towards a quiet neutral or find yourself intrigued by an eye-catching hue?
