Asian-inspired Philadelphia home

Our client’s love of Asian art and a strong belief in the harmonious practice of feng shui informed the design aesthetic for this fabulous project.  The interior of the two-story condo in historic Old City Philadelphia has sweeping views of Center City, as well as two private balconies. We selected furnishings and accents inspired by the client’s existing pieces to create a unique, modern space.

The interior was designed to have a modern, global feel focused on Asian accents.  The focal point of the living area is a fireplace flanked by custom walnut built-ins.  These display the client’s unique collection of art and artifacts from around the world.  Sleek lines, in addition to neutral walls and fabrics, evoke minimalism and serenity.  The dining room and kitchen follow the same understated, modern aesthetic.

A vintage enameled garden stool in the client’s collection inspired the sitting room’s color scheme.  Rich throw pillows and hanging terrariums add vibrant color to the neutral carpet and chair upholstery.  On the windowsill, a potted phalaenopsis orchid lends graceful polish.  A boldly patterned wall covering in the powder room echoes the vivid hues in the living areas, while minimalist fixtures tie into the home’s overall aesthetic.  In the master bedroom, custom rice paper and walnut doors lead into the dressing room.  The master’s neutral palette creates an air of tranquility; in addition, modern wooden furnishings enhance the serene atmosphere.

Outdoor Sanctuary

The design of the outdoor space reflects the colors and mood of the interior, continuing Asian influences in the plantings like bamboo and a Japanese maple tree. Warm red and orange tones create an inviting feel and serve as a beautiful backdrop for the dining room and sitting room.  The cozy sectional also adds a welcoming vibe.  Most importantly, the design allows for beautiful city views while creating an intimate, nature-inspired oasis in the middle of the bustling city.
