Breakfast rooms

Breakfast rooms are some of our favorite spaces to design!  These are where families gather for weeknight dinners, couples sip a quiet cup of morning coffee, and friends sit to share laughs and stories.  We love knowing that we create a place where memories will be made day after day.  Looking for some breakfast room inspo of your own?  Keep reading for more!

Our favorite breakfast rooms

What, exactly, is a breakfast room (and why are they so popular)?  Simply put, this is a space adjacent to your kitchen for more casual dining.  In some homes, this is a nook or area with walls on three sides off of the kitchen.  For open concept homes, we’ve used creative ways to define the  breakfast area to allow for a sense of coziness in an otherwise large space.

The latter was the case in our Main Line project, which had a sizable area between the family room and kitchen.  Because our clients have young children, they asked us to create a space that was family-friendly.  They wanted an elevated design that allowed them to keep the kids in their line of sight while prepping meals or cleaning up.  The round table comfortably seats their family of five.  An interesting chandelier above and neutral area rug below add definition. Most importantly, the tones and textures coordinate with the family room for cohesion.  All in all, it’s a practical area with a stylish twist!

In our Malvern kitchen renovation, the breakfast room is surrounded on three sides by views of the deck and backyard.  For a laid-back vibe, we designed a custom round table with woven-backed chairs.  The classic brass chandelier adds just the right touch of elegance. New custom drapery panels frame the windows and define those beautiful views, with chic blue trim that ties into the custom cement tile backsplash.  The best part?  Our clients love spending time in here every day!

Another one of our breakfast rooms that gets a lot of love is our Bryn Mawr project.  This was another design where we balanced an open flow with a defined area by integrating a walnut countertop to differentiate the space from the quartzite in the kitchen.  The cheerful wooden dining chairs are playful and fun for this growing family (and low-maintenance).  Natural light floods through the windows and makes this such a warm, friendly spot!
