Center City home office

Early last year, we received a request from a client to design a Center City home office.  She explained that her current home office setup was unwelcoming and disorganized, and sometimes led to her going into work on the weekends.  We at GSID are firm believers that your home should work for you, and so we designed a beautiful space that she loves!

Creating a fabulous Center City home office

Our client not only wanted an organized and functional home office, but also one that felt inviting even when she wasn’t working.  In our initial conversation, she said “I’d love to have a space where I could curl up and read, or enjoy a cup of coffee on a rainy weekend morning.”

The first goal was function.  While we wanted a lovely, inspired space, it very much needed to be a working office.  We came up with the concept of a built-in, L-shaped desk backed by a wall of built-in shelves, drawers, and cabinetry for open and closed storage.  Books, photos, plants, and other accessories add style and personality.  Meanwhile, necessities like paper, ink, cords, and cables can be tucked away but still easily accessible.

A comfortable and elegant wheeled task chair makes swiveling back and forth a breeze.  In the desk, shallow drawers hold a host of office supplies so that pens and clips don’t clutter the surface.  By adding so much custom storage, we were able to make the room feel more bright and open without changing the footprint by an inch!

Next, we turned our attention to the seating area.  For maximum comfort, we paired the sofa with a cocktail ottoman.  This allows our client to lie down and get cozy or sit up and prop her feet in front of her.  The end table features shelves for more functional storage, with a lamp that provides softer light.

We added a cozy reading corner opposite the sofa, tucked next to the window.  With this, we gave our client not only a home office but also a sitting room where she could sit and chat with a friend or two.  Last but not least, the delicate cherry blossom wallpaper by Schumacher creates a feminine, sophisticated mood.  You almost feel like you’re in a secret garden when you step into the space.

Best of all, our client absolutely loves her new home office!  What more could we ask for?
