Chestnut Hill kitchen renovation
When our clients contacted us about their Chestnut Hill kitchen renovation, they had very definite ideas about what they wanted. Their dream kitchen was a long time in the making, as we first began the design process in early March 2020. This complete redesign was definitely worth the wait!
A dream kitchen renovation
For our clients, the kitchen is very much the heart of their home. They not only love to cook and spend time here, but also enjoy their strong tradition of hosting dozens of family members for holidays and parties year-round. When it comes to those holiday dinners, their countertops and island double as a buffet spread for platters and bowls of incredible food. However, their kitchen felt very dated and had awkward aspects that they were eager to change. The tile floor felt dull, the countertop material was a point of contention, and the stairs down to the game room were awkwardly placed with regards to the seating area. The existing layout was congested and didn’t allow for great flow, particularly when it came to having guests.
In particular, the stove featured a wooden “mantle” surround that made prep and cooking difficult.
So, what was on our clients’ wishlist? Fabulous hardwood floors, beautiful custom cabinetry and specialty storage, a fresher, brighter feeling, and a homey but elevated kitchen with an easy flow.
By relocating the stairs, we created a true seating area where they can enjoy morning coffee or dinner at their new round pedestal table. One of the most personal touches here is a black and white framed photo of our client’s grandfather, an accomplished chef, taken at his restaurant decades ago. The tailored Roman shade adds definition to the window.
The new, longer island features generous storage (including a refrigerator drawer that makes meal prepping and putting together lunches a snap!) along with new stools so that visitors can pull up a seat, hang out, and have a good time. The cabinetry along the walls offer ample storage for cookware, small appliances, serveware, and dishes; our client very much wanted a clean look without clutter and this was integral.
For a client who loves to cook, the range deserved special attention. We paired a custom wooden hood with a contrasting tile backsplash to really make it pop.
On the opposite wall, we added that contrasting tile as a backsplash to create interest and definition to a section between corbels, below glass-fronted cabinets that have an airy vibe.
What’s your favorite feature in this fabulous kitchen renovation?
