Chestnut Hill Kitchen Reveal
We’re excited to share another great Chestnut Hill kitchen reveal with you! Our busy clients have a growing family, and their eventual plans for a kitchen renovation were unexpectedly moved up when a pipe burst and caused major damage. They decided to make lemonade out of lemons and asked us to design a space with better function and organization. While anyone who has been through a kitchen reno knows that the in-between is never ideal – especially when you have kids – but the end result was worth it!
With a small kitchen footprint in their lovely twin home, our clients needed outside-the-box thinking. Their must haves included as much storage space as possible along with integrated appliances. They also requested a neutral palette using whites and grays for a classic vibe, while taking advantage of the natural light from the back and side windows.
The blank slate of the existing space looked like this:
One thing they loved about their previous kitchen was that it was large enough for a table and chairs, but that took up valuable organizational space. Our solution? An island with seating, storage, and an integrated microwave! We combined this with custom cabinetry around the perimeter of the kitchen to utilize every possible inch, while adding a wall oven, warming drawers, and a pantry. Doing so created a plan with a lot of functionality in a limited space.
We also widened the doorway between the dining room and kitchen to allow for a better flow of movement. The final effect is bright, fresh, and open!
We selected oil-rubbed bronze hardware and fixtures to add depth and richness to the space. Glass fronted upper cabinets next to the sink contribute to the openness and make the space feel larger. The subtly textured backsplash tile lends more visual interest to the neutral palette. Quartz countertops are crisp and low-maintenance; just the thing for a family who uses the kitchen constantly and is always on the go.
Finally, we balanced the hardworking surfaces with softness in the custom Roman shades at the back door and window above the sink. These tie into the fabric of the drum shade over the island, and you can see that design is truly in the details. By thoughtfully and intentionally selecting each element and crafting a cohesive design, we met this family’s needs and gave them a kitchen that they love to this day!
