Design details: Fabulous fireplaces
Now that we’ve turned back the clocks and are preparing for Thanksgiving, it’s the perfect time to highlight some of our most fabulous fireplaces. Nothing feels quite as cozy as a roaring fire on a chilly evening, and we love to think that our clients enjoy these fireplaces as much as we did designing them!
Five fabulous fireplaces by GSID
In our Society Hill living room, we transformed the fireplace by replacing the existing surround and hearth with an elegant marble. By painting the mantle a soft, luxurious gray to enhance the detailed carved woodwork, we turned it into an elegant focal point that anchors one of the room’s two conversation areas.
For a different look in our Willows Park family room, we selected a reclaimed beam from a local barn that was demolished after falling into disrepair. This became the new mantle above the homey fireplace, and is a charming nod to the history of the Main Line area.
Who says that fireplaces are only for living and family rooms? It’s one of our favorite features in our Wyndmoor home office! With understated millwork painted the same shade as the wall, the vibe is one of quiet sophistication.
For contrast, we designed a marble herringbone-tiled surround for the fireplace in our Bryn Mawr family room. A new, larger mantle adds presence without feeling overwhelming in this family-focused space.
Finally, in our historic Fairmount townhome, we didn’t need to do a thing to the stunning marble surround and mantle in the living room. More of an architectural feature than a functional one, this fireplace nevertheless catches the eye of everyone who sees the space. It was very much a key focal point in the design, and we loved creating the room around it!
