Five florals that aren’t fussy

During our visit to High Point Market in April, we spied a new trend in florals – bold, graphic, elegant, and unfussy.  Here are five that we’re loving right now!

Why florals?

There’s a reason why florals are a design staple, although the patterns and colors shift to reflect different aesthetics and periods.  Drawing inspiration from nature, designers have long incorporated flower themes into both fashion and interior design.  When it comes to incorporating them into our designs, we’re all about accents.  We love to use them to add visual interest to window treatments, pillows, rugs, and wallpaper.  Larger scale patterns with washes of gray add elegance, while pops of color lend a modern vibe.  These are not your grandmother’s rosebud curtains!

Speaking of curtains…

Window treatments are a fun way to bring florals into a space, and with custom drapery, you can choose any fabric you like!  To make a splash, consider a bold, bright pattern to frame windows from floor to ceiling.  This is a great option for small or dark spaces that need some pizzazz.

A little pattern can make a big statement

One of our favorite design accents is a stylish throw pillow; they’re so versatile and work in just about any room!  Pillows offer a good option if you’re unsure about how to introduce pattern and color, because they don’t overwhelm.  You can be as daring as you like, whether you prefer an abstract, two-tone style for simplicity or an artsy, elaborate design.

Shades of gray

Florals in gray take on an upscale vibe without being overdone.  This translates beautifully in wallcoverings like the Phillip Jeffries “Blossom” in the header photo.  The subtlety of the gray tones allows the simple elegance of sketch-like patterns to stand out.

Don’t forget to look down

A cool floral rug can work as a starting point for other accents, like throw pillows or window treatments.  Pulling colors from the rug is a great way to tie the room’s palette together.  The trick with a floral patterned rug is to keep the scale large so that it’s not busy.

These are just the tip of the iceberg – we haven’t even touched on upholstery, lighting, or artwork.  Have we inspired you to bring unfussy florals into your home or office?  Let us know!
