Five interior design books we love

Like a lot of people, we love perusing interior design books.  Seeing others’ creativity and innovation sparks our own, and we enjoy looking at design with fresh eyes.

Five fab design books: GSID team picks

While we all work together as an amazing team, the members of the Glenna Stone Interior Design team each have our own style.  We had fun comparing the interior design books that we selected and talking about why!

Glenna Stone, Principal

For her pick, Glenna chose Interior Portraits by Victoria Hagan.  “I love Victoria’s clean and simple approach to classic design. She has a refined talent for layering in details with elegance and style.”  With her careful attention to silhouette and color, Hagan creates timeless interiors with an air of quiet serenity.

Andrea Kudzmas, Interior Designer

Andrea chose Domino: The Book of Decorating: A Room-by-room Guide to Creating a Home that Makes You Happy.  “It’s a fun, creative, and thoughtfully laid out book that incorporates traditional design principles like scale and balance. I love the hand-sketched floor plans and furniture drawings that emphasize how design can be both playful and intentional.  The style is eclectic, slightly unconventional, fun, and incorporates one-of-a-kind pieces that give rooms soul and make them personal, lived in, and loved (which is what a home should be)!”  This stalwart design favorite has something for everyone, no matter what your individual style.

Nicole Fuscia, Marketing Coordinator

Nicole’s choice?  Barefoot Luxury by Sandra Espinet, a look at elevated interior design in Mexico.  “I’m drawn to designs that speak to all my senses, and this book is full of them.  My favorite place is a small town on the Riviera Maya, and paging through this book makes me feel like I’m there!  I can practically hear the ocean and feel the cool tile under my feet.  Every room is my dream combination of welcoming and indulgent.”  With an upscale yet inviting style, Espinet’s designs offer a vacation for your imagination.

Kate Stauffer, Interior Designer

Kate’s selection is Katie Ridder’s Rooms, noting “I love how she mixes traditional furnishings with unexpected patterns and colors to create an updated, eclectic, and welcoming look.  The addition of fun accessories and little details (like the coral finials on light fixtures) is surprising in a great way!”  Vibrant color, intriguing patterns, and traditional pieces combine to create unique spaces on every page.

Abigail Gabriel, Business Manager

Abigail opted for Paloma Conteras’ Dream. Design. Live.  “As someone who doesn’t have a background in interior design, but still prefers my living spaces to feel well rounded and put together, this book has helped me find my inspiration and aesthetic while setting the stage for design and understanding basic concepts. I love Contreras’ glamorous twists on more traditional styles; she’s just as skilled with an all-white palette as she is using pops of color and metallic accents.”
