Interior Designers Give Back
When we were asked to participate in the inaugural Philly Chair Affair in 2017, we jumped at the chance. What is the Chair Affair, you’re wondering? It’s an event benefiting Pathways to Housing PA and its Philadelphia Furniture Bank, whose motto is “Because home is more than four walls.” The furniture bank accepts donations of gently used furniture, and in turn gives it to individuals and families who are in need, in particular those who are in crisis or transitioning out of homelessness. So often, we take for granted the simple things that make a home, like a kitchen table for meals, a dresser for our clothes, or a chair in which to read. Both Pathways to Housing and the Furniture Bank empower people by giving them the opportunity to create a home for themselves and their families.
For the Philly Chair Affair, designers from the Philadelphia area choose a piece of furniture from the Furniture Bank and give it a makeover. The pieces are auctioned off at the Chair Affair with the proceeds going to Pathways to Housing PA. It’s a wonderful way to utilize our creative interior design skills and exercise our imaginations for an important cause!
Chair Affair 2017
Last year, our chair was titled “Branching Out.” We’re proud to say that our chair raised the most money at the event! We took a wooden chair that was quite a bit worse for the wear and gave it the Glenna Stone Interior Design treatment. It’s so hard to pick a favorite detail, but we couldn’t have been more thrilled by the results! Rossi Brothers repaired and restored the frame of the chair; then we reupholstered the seat in silk Romo fabric with rich pink embroidery.

Chair Affair 2018
We don’t want to give away too much about this year’s design. We can tell you that we hunted through the warehouse at the Furniture Bank and found the perfect bench. It’s from the Rittenhouse Hotel, a Philadelphia institution, and we knew it was the perfect piece for us. After going through quite a few fabric samples and sketches, we settled on the final design. We’re lucky to belong to such a generous design community here in Philadelphia and can’t wait to see the other chairs!
