When a young family moves into a new home, the instinct is to knock down walls and tone down the palette so the imagination feels no hard boundaries. In this case, our clients wanted to reimagine the 1st-floor housing foyer, kitchen, family room, living room, and powder room of their classic Penn Valley home by opening up the first floor to better light and flow. A new eat-in kitchen blends with the previously closed-off family room. The elevated yet approachable style weaves its way through the finished rooms, using an inviting neutral color palette and subtle touches of natural texture on the comfortable furnishings. Each room is casual yet tailored and can support lively family activities as well as quiet moments alone.
