Kaleidoscope inspired patterns
Kaleidoscope patterns are one of the trends we spied in High Point at spring market. The fascinating, symmetrical designs created by twisting a mirrored tube were echoed in furnishings, art, and accessories. This trend remains strong, and we’ve selected some striking examples to inspire you!
Kaleidoscope patterns – not just for kids
Our favorite examples of these patterns are more organic than geometric, although those are beautiful as well! There’s just something about washes of color, graceful curves, and abstract patterns to draw the eye.
Art
For a focal point, bold artwork like the La Jungla Sapphire painting from Selamat really packs a punch. The painting lives up to its name with saturated fronds in shades of indigo, violet, and berry that curve into and away from each other.
Rugs
Of course, kaleidoscope fun isn’t just for decor, as we’ve noticed this trend in the world of rugs as well. We love the large scale patterns afforded by the size of an area rug, like this hand-knotted wool rug from Dash & Albert. The touches of yellow add life to the soft grays, blues, and taupes.
Upholstery
The magic of kaleidscopes is facilitated by mirrors, and some of the most mesmerizing patterns are stunning in their simple symmetry. Thibaut’s Ebru Embroidery fabric is reminiscent of waves breaking against the shore before receding in a constant rhythm. The varying shades of blue add depth and visual texture to the pattern.
Wallpaper
We’ve long been fans of wallpaper to add personality to your space, so it’s no surprise that we’ve included it here as well!
Lindsay Cowles masters the art of kaleidoscope with vibrant tones and patterns colored by vegetable dye – the perfect combination of dynamic and organic. Her Navy Red A grasscloth makes a bold statement that would be perfect on an accent wall, in a cool powder room, or a ceiling as shown by Grace Blu Designs.
Throw pillows
For a fun pop in any room, throw pillows are always the answer. In fact, the Annie Selke pillows that we spotted at High Point were our first indicator of this fun trend! We’re partial to the watercolor-esque patterns with a touch of expressionism. Splashes and dashes of color mirror each other with a washed, aged feel. Bonus – these indoor/outdoor pillows can go anywhere from the bedroom to the porch.
What do you think? Are you loving this trend as much as we are?
