Main Line Bedroom Renovation

Our Wynnewood clients approached us about an extensive bedroom renovation last year.  Because the project involved the bedroom, dressing room, and en suite bath, it wasn’t a small undertaking.  The result, however, was a transformation that was simply stunning!

The bedroom renovation

The clients felt that the existing suite was very outdated.  Our main objective was bringing it up to the caliber of the rest of the home, with its mix of contemporary artwork and transitional furnishings.

We created a serene space with a slightly modern edge.  Incorporating different textural elements kept the neutral palette from feeling too flat.  The low, chunky upholstered bed is backed by an accent wall featuring a metallic grasscloth wallcovering.  Sleek, square nightstands flank the bed with lustrous Visual Comfort lamps; the overhead light fixture is a mod design, also by Visual Comfort.  The drapery panels, also custom by Urban Loft Window Treatments, feature a subtle quatrefoil design with soft gray trim.  To balance the fluidity and add texture, we brought in a pair of fun, furry stools for the foot of the bed.  One of the most important phases of the design was replacing the existing wall-to-wall carpeting with new stain in place flooring.  We then anchored the bed with a luxe area rug to provide even more contrast between the floor and the walls.

The dressing room makeover

The dressing room connects the bedroom to the en suite bathroom, and while the storage space was decent, it wasn’t optimal.  The existing layout was a bit awkward and cramped, and there was no door.  We designed a pocket door with glass for privacy; it allowed us to set the dressing room off as its own space while preserving the footprint.  Another key component of the design was reconfiguring the layout of the wardrobe cabinetry and drawers.  The new design, along two walls that create an L, has a much better flow and makes the dressing room appear larger.  We also designed a new recessed lighting plan and added a flush mount light fixture in the center of the room to make the space feel lighter and brighter.  A built in mirror is the perfect spot for a last minute hair and wardrobe check, with drawers below for jewelry and accessories.  The hardwood flooring continues into this area and is accented by another custom area rug.

The bathroom transformation

Of the three rooms that make up the suite, the bathroom underwent the biggest change.  We tore out all of the existing fixtures and tile to take the space to the next level.  By bringing in various sizes of Calacatta marble tile, we created a luxurious, spa-like ambiance.  Focus on details was the key in this bathroom.  The bathtub features an oversized custom niche and is surrounded on three sides by marble for a cozy soak.  The adjoining stall shower features floor-to-ceiling marble with a niche as well.  On the other side of the bathroom, a mirror framed by Calacatta chair rail tile floats above the quartz-topped custom painted vanity.  A box valance by Urban Loft is the perfect final touch above the window that allows generous natural light to reflect on the marble tile.
