Malvern kitchen and breakfast room

We’ve been waiting to reveal our Malvern kitchen and breakfast room, and the day is finally here!  When our clients first came to us, they felt strongly about redesigning the space into a warm, family-friendly spot to gather for meals and conversation.  With two careers, school aged children, and a dog, they simply didn’t have the bandwidth to create and achieve that vision, which is where we came in.

Kitchen and breakfast room transformation

The previous kitchen design felt a bit choppy, with a bilevel island and archways that separated it from the dining area.  An awkward layout combined with lack of natural light meant that the existing space didn’t inspire a sense of welcome.  Our goals were to create a functional, livable space where they could enjoy time as a family (or just a quiet cup of coffee on a weekend morning).

The dining space had a fantastic view of the backyard, but the tile floor and dated light fixture detracted from the view.

After opening up the entire space – goodbye, archways! – and adding new hardwood flooring, we designed a custom round table with woven-backed chairs and a classic round brass chandelier for an casually effortless effect.  New custom drapery panels frame the windows and define that beautiful view!

In the kitchen proper, we reconfigured the layout so that all of the new SubZero and Wolf appliances allow for much better ease of movement; previously, both the sink and range were located in the island which made both prep surface and counter seating far too small.  The new, quartzite-topped island is roomy without being bulky.  Above, a pair of open brass lantern-style pendants feel airy while anchoring the center of the room.

Above the range, handpainted tiles form a striking backsplash against a custom painted and stained wooden range hood that adds a unique touch and lends warmth.

Finally, we designed a custom coffee bar that might just be our clients’ favorite new addition!  Their impressive coffee machine has a dedicated home, with a pull-out shelf that makes it easy to whip up the perfect morning latte or espresso to go with dessert.  Hidden in the drawers below are cups in varying sizes along with all the tools that an at-home barista needs.
