Meet the Designer: Carolyn Wheaten

It’s time for one of our favorite behind-the-scenes features!  This week, we’d love you to meet the designer: Carolyn Wheaten!  Carolyn has been with us since early 2022, and we love the energy and ideas that she brings to our designs and the team as a whole.  Keep reading to get to know more about why she loves interior design, what inspires her, and why she loves being part of GSID.

Why did you choose a career in interior design?

Interior design is definitely something I have been passionate about and inspired by for as long as I can remember.  I enjoy the challenge of using creativity to design and transform a physical space into a functional and livable home that our clients can experience and enjoy for years to come.

How has your career carried over into other aspects of your life?

I’ve incorporated my passion for design and visual elements in the ways I have furnished our various homes. This bridges the gap between what I do for work and the environment that surrounds my family in our time spent at home.  I love embracing functionality, beauty, and style both at home and work!

What would you say that you love most about being an interior designer?

I can’t pick one thing!  I love having the opportunity to enhance our clients’ homes.  That extends beyond the aesthetics and making it look fantastic.  For me, it’s designing in a way that reflects their vision for what home means to them.  I’m part of creating a welcoming, comfortable environment where they can spend time with family and friends.  Interior design also allows me to express artistic and stylistic elements of my personality through design.  I create harmony through space planning, furnishings, colors, and textile/textural components, which makes it the perfect fit for me.

Why do you enjoy being a part of the GSID team?

GSID has given me the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from so many talented, creative designers every day. We all bring different strengths and experiences to the table, and it makes us better as individuals and as a team!

If you had to pick a favorite space to design, what would it be and why?

Breakfast rooms are my favorite.  They lend themselves to a sense of fun with playful patterns and textiles, which is a happy and bright way to start the day.  It’s also a great space in a home for casual livability, and it makes me happy to think of families sharing meals and conversations in these settings.

Thank you so much to Carolyn for sharing, and we hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know her as much as we have.  What’s one question you’d like to ask Carolyn if you had the chance?  Let us know in the comments!
