Mother’s Day 2020: Gift Guide
Mother’s Day 2020 will look pretty different than previous years. With that in mind, we’ve created a gift guide that allows you to shop virtually, and share love and happiness from a distance. Instead of brunches and spa days, we’re focusing on ways to show how much she means to you in the most essential ways. Now, let’s celebrate that special mom in your life!
Mother’s Day 2020 Gift Guide
First and foremost, we support small and local businesses all year round, but especially right now. We believe that small business is the lifeblood of our community, and we encourage you to love local. While most service-based businesses are closed, you can still purchase gift cards for the hair salon, spa, massage therapist, or nail salon that moms will definitely want to visit when they reopen! (All of us here at GSID can’t wait to get those appointments booked.)
Of course, we’re doing a lot of online shopping these days, and we have some great options that will let you send love from a safe distance.
Our friends at William Heritage Winery have pivoted to delivery and curbside pickup, elevating the virtual happy hour game across the area. Their newly released wine tasting package includes three bottles, an evaluation sheet, and suggested cheese pairings. Add a great cheeseboard – we love the versatility of this serving board – and she’ll have everything she needs for a fun evening in!
Speaking of beverages, the gift of a cup of coffee or tea that actually stays hot long enough for a mom to drink it is almost invaluable. Corkcicle and Rifle Paper Co. have teamed up to offer a line of drinkware that pairs beautiful designs with the ability to keep drinks hot (or cold) for hours. Their tumblers are perfect for everything from a morning latte to an evening cocktail, with flat sides for an easy grip. The line also includes coffee mugs, canteens, and stemless wine cups.
Family stories are priceless, and become even more so as the years go by. StoryWorth offers the chance to preserve these memories in a new way. Once a week, they send an email with a question or prompt to the recipient (mom, grandmother, aunt), and then the response is sent to you. You can customize questions and prompts if you’d like, as well. At the end of the year, all of her stories, memories, and photos are combined into a beautifully bound book that will be treasured for years to come.
Recipes are another aspect of our family history, which is why we love the My Family Cookbook from our Chestnut Hill neighbor Threadwell. With space for ingredients, photos, instructions, sketches, and notes, this cookbook will be as unique as your culinary legacy. To make it even more special, Threadwell can monogram the cover!
If she has a green thumb, a cheery trio of planters for herbs or succulents will surely brighten her day! We love this set of handcrafted Tangier 4 inch pots from GlobeIn.
For something a little more whimsical, the Bud Box features two different planters, a votive lantern, and a handmade marker. Add in gift card to her favorite local nursery (many are doing local delivery or contactless pickup) and she’ll think of you every time she tends her plants.
Give the gift of relaxation with her very own gua sha facial stone. Gua sha is a massage technique that, when used with a facial oil or serum, boosts circulation and relaxes muscles in the face, jaw, and neck. Sometimes, the very best gift we can give is ten minutes of peace, quiet, and working out the tension and stress of the day. Philadelphia small-batch skin care boutique Sabbatical Beauty offers how-to videos and products to round out a soothing self-care routine.
Last but definitely not least, most of us are missing the experience of eating at our favorite restaurants, trying that night’s specials or getting our favorite apps. Also, let’s be honest – the constant cooking and cleaning up at home starts to feel like a merry-go-round that never stops. Here are some fantastic local restaurants who are offering delivery and takeout options. Treat mom to a great meal cooked by someone else!
