New Hope Farmhouse – Family Room

Our New Hope Farmhouse project is a stunner, and includes a redesign of the family room, kitchen, and pantry.  The family room reveal is up first, and stay tuned for the kitchen and pantry both on the blog and social media!  We think you’ll fall in love just as much as we did.

New Hope Farmhouse – Family room

Our clients moved into a gem of a historic farmhouse two decades ago; the original home was built in 1771!  Before moving in, they added on to either side of the existing structure while they lived in the carriage house.  It’s set against the backdrop of peaceful fields, and is still a working farm.  The family room, kitchen, pantry, and sunroom are located in one addition, and we were excited to design these spaces.

Previously, the family room felt crowded and a bit dark.  We wanted to take advantage of the generous natural light that beams through the windows and skylight, with an eye towards creating an upscale farmhouse design that ties into its surroundings and has just the right traditional touches to pay homage to the home’s history and aesthetic.  By opening up the furniture plan and layering texture and pattern throughout the entire space, we achieved our goal of an interesting, welcoming, and warm place to gather with family and friends.

One fun detail was replacing the existing pendant with a larger two-tiered chandelier.  The eye is naturally drawn upwards to the light filtering in through the skylight, and the statement chandelier provides a focal point and balance to the scale of the room.

Before and after

For clients who love to entertain – and this couple is known for their parties and annual Christmas Eve open house – finding creative ways to add extra seating is always key.  We selected and placed a wooden console table with clean lines next to the wrought iron staircase railing and tucked a pair of hair-on-hide stools underneath that can be positioned anywhere a guest might want to pull up a seat and chat.  The table lamp speaks beautifully to both the railing and the chandelier.

Finally, we’ll leave you with a sneak peek of the view from the family room into the new kitchen!  This whole space feels so open, fresh, and bright, and we can’t wait to share more of our charming farmhouse project soon.
