New Hope kitchen renovation

Redesigning this New Hope kitchen to accommodate our clients’ growing family and relocation from NYC was a dream!  When they decided to take up full-time residence at their weekend home, they knew the kitchen needed a full transformation.  We love every inch of the new space, and we’re excited to share it.

Creating livable chic in a New Hope kitchen

Our clients had very definite ideas about some aspects of the design; the existing kitchen was too dark and had far too little storage space.  Our solution? We removed an entire structural load bearing wall to open it up.  This wasn’t easy, and we needed to work with the architect and builder to blend new support beams with the existing architecture of the house.

Before – Load bearing wall between kitchen and family room

Now, where the wall once stood, a fabulous leathered quartzite island (one of two) allows for light and space.  This is the new view from the family room!

Every aspect of the kitchen was tailored to their lifestyle and aesthetic; welcoming, sophisticated, and energetic.  With two farmhouse sinks, one under the window and the other in the second island, there is ample space for cooking and baking prep.  Two dishwashers make cleanup a snap.  We also designed custom storage for cooking utensils, baking sheets, and cutting boards keep everything right at hand but neatly organized!

Speaking of cooking and baking, the 60″ Wolf range and ovens were a must.  We took it a step further and created a focal point here, with a hand-cut glass tile mosaic backsplash in custom colors adding a serious “wow” factor.  Above it, the made-to-order metal hood’s soft finish evokes an elevated French country vibe.  The blue veining in the quartzite counters echoes the blue in the backsplash, and each slab is mitered to give it a rich, substantial feeling.  Every detail was thoughtfully selected to enhance the design concept as a whole.

The new layout allows the light through the breakfast room windows and French doors to flood the space.

Let’s take another peek at the before, shall we?

Before – New Hope kitchen center island and range

In addition, the original pantry was not connected to the kitchen.  This was a non-starter for our client, a trained pastry chef-turned-mom who needs her staples close at hand.  The new butler’s pantry also features matching quartzite with a mitered sink and a commercial grade Miele dishwasher with custom wine racks to support our clients’ passion for wine and entertaining.  By reconfiguring the layout of the pantry, it acts as a pass-through between the kitchen and dining room with a natural flow.

Of course, we had to make the pantry not only functional but also uniquely stylish.  The front features a one-of-a-kind reclaimed decorative panel from India that makes a gorgeous statement.  Glass cabinetry above offers glassware storage while maintaining an open feeling.  Along the back wall, floor to ceiling storage is easily accessible with a library ladder that hangs on the side wall when not in use.  We added walnut countertops here and in the hall to draw warmth from the exposed beams throughout.

Stay tuned for part two of the project reveal; the combination laundry room and mudroom is just as fabulous.  You can also check out tips for achieving this look at Homes & Gardens (featuring this stunning kitchen that caught their eye)!
