Oreland First Floor Reveal

Our Oreland first floor reveal is here! When we began this project, our clients had just completed an addition to their home to allow for entertaining their large family for frequent casual gatherings.  We focused on creating a welcoming space encompassing both living and dining areas.  After completing this phase, we redesigned the living room to feel both elevated and welcoming as they and their guests enter the home.  We loved working with this family and are already looking forward to starting on their next phase!

A family home (in every sense of the word)

We love the unique stories behind the homes we design, and this has a great one.  Fun fact: this house has been in the family for two generations!  For us, this makes it even more special that we get to help the family write the newest chapter in their history.

The addition on the back of the house gave them more room for their ever-growing extended family to hang out and enjoy laid back meals like Taco Tuesday.  They wanted a very casual, California-inspired vibe in here where people can pile on the sofa or gather round the large dining table and spend time together.  We used a palette of blues and neutrals mixed together with wood, metal, rattan, and leather for a grounded feeling.

Woven shades on the windows cut glare while allowing all of that beautiful natural light to filter through.  Simple curves and lines contribute to the breezy aesthetic that makes this a happy, comfortable space where everyone is welcome and there’s no muss or fuss.

The living room is the first space you see when you enter the front door, so we designed it to make an impression.  The palette for this room was inspired by vintage fabric handed down by the family matriarch who originally owned the home.  We had enough of it to make two patterned throw pillows, and used the tones to bring in rich, warm shades of orange, brown, and gold in the upholstery and finishes.

This fabric is one of those truly one-of-a-kind details that adds the most personal touch to a design.  It’s woven not only with thread, but also with sentiment and love, and that is something that can never be replicated.  Integrating meaningful items and pieces into our designs allows us to make them even more special for the people who will see and use them every day.  We are so grateful to have played our part in this family’s story and cannot wait to see where the next chapter takes them!
