Our favorite mirrors

If you’re familiar with our work, you may have noticed how frequently we use mirrors in our designs.  Mirrors are one of the most versatile accents in any space.  There’s the practical aspect of checking your appearance, of course, especially while you’re getting ready or before you head out the door.  Mirrors also create the effect of bouncing light throughout a room, which makes even narrow halls or small foyers seem bigger and brighter.  Last but absolutely not least, they offer a really fun way to add personality.  From the kitchen to the living room, we’re showing off some of our favorite mirrors from past projects!

Mirror, mirror

We get compliments all of the time on the mirrors in our header photo, and they’re definitely a favorite.  Our clients wanted a bathroom that their young daughters could share and grow into.  Hot pink mirrors aren’t your typical bathroom accent.  However, in this classic bath design the bold frames will feel sophisticated yet playful for years to come.

Another project with an unexpected mirror was our Lafayette Hill kitchen.  This one adds an unexpected edge with its frame of raw, oxidized iron discs, in a contrast with the more understated furnishings and lighting.  If you knew our client, you’d agree that this kind of pop is just her style!

Sometimes a project demands some texture on the walls, which is how we came to select this mirror with a woven frame.  We talked about our love of gold and brass in a recent post, but they aren’t the only options.  In this dining room, the mirror creates a focal point above the sideboard with a textured, bronzed frame.  This plays beautifully against the geometric pattern of the grasscloth wallpaper, while the subtle curve of the frame lifts it away from the wall for a layered effect.

Speaking of polished, we leveled up in our Wynnewood en suite bath.  Above the sink, the oversized mirror is framed by Calacatta marble base tile to match the rest of the luxurious space.  This touch elevates an otherwise pedestrian bathroom fixture to a custom focal point.

For our Center City clients, we wanted a unique mirror in the entry to both reflect natural light from the transom as well as make a statement when guests stepped through the front door.  Our selection was this sunburst-style mirror in hammered brass and natural bone. We’ll leave you with a sneak peek of another of our favorite mirrors, which you’ll see next week on the blog!  Crafted from staggered strips of hand-forged metal, this mirror evokes a sort of industrial elegance with its curled edges and weathered patina.
