Rittenhouse townhome
Philadelphia is a city of architectural gems, and our Rittenhouse townhome fits that description perfectly. It’s actually one of three units in a former mansion, built in the 1850s. The 15 foot ceilings and generous natural light offered the ideal canvas upon which to blend the traditional architectural details with our clients’ love of bold color and clean lines.
Modern style in a Rittenhouse Square townhome
The Alexander McQueen rug started our inspiration for the entire space. Creating a design that felt both masculine and bright was critical to the home owners. Tactile and visual texture were key to our project design. Wood, silk, brass, velvet, and marble come together to create a sense of approachable refinement. Velvet upholstery and a hammered-metal finish on the lamps create richness that keeps the rug as the focal point. A pair of midcentury inspired bookshelves feature books and mementos, with a vintage bar cart nestled between the large front windows.
Luxury isn’t just in the fabrics and finishes. We used wallpaper in small spaces to make strong statements and imbue a sense of chic style. A geometric black and white wall covering in the marble-floored vestibule is very different from the bold floral in the first floor powder room, but both fit the clients’ personalities and senses of style.
Lastly, we highlighted the homeowners’ incredible collection of fine art throughout the interior. Original artwork elevates each space, from the playful monkey by Donald Roller Wilson in the powder room to the original Eugene Yelchin above the living room sofa.
Designing this townhome was a dream! It proved that traditional and modern aesthetics can create a beautiful marriage in design.
