Summer bed linens 101

Now that summer is well and truly here, we wanted to share our tips for how to select the best summer bed linens!  Even with air conditioning, our homes get warmer during a heat wave and the last thing you want is to feel stuffy and overheated while you sleep.  These three tips will have you sleeping cool and comfortable all summer long.

Three steps for the perfect summer bed linens

When you think of summer, you might not think of layering, but the art of creating the best summer bed is all in the layers.  The trick is to go lighter.  Just as we switch our wardrobes when the seasons change, we should switch our bed linens too! When you consider how much time we spend sleeping – hopefully at least eight hours each night – it is so worth it to invest in bedding that feels like a dream.

1. Sheets

For cool summer sheets, opt for a natural fiber, like long-staple cotton for a more tailored look or linen if you prefer a more relaxed vibe. (Don’t forget: linen naturally wrinkles, so keep this in mind if you want a very tidy bed.)  Crisp white cotton is always a winner, because it looks bright and fresh.  Choose a set with a colorful or interesting border if you want to add a touch of style.  We love the easy elegance of the Boll and Branch percale banded sheet set.

2. Lightweight duvet or quilt

There’s nothing quite like snuggling under a fluffy duvet in the winter, but summer is a different story.  Switch out your heavier duvet with a lightweight, down-alternative duvet insert or a simple quilt.  By swapping to a lighter layer, you’ll change the way your bed feels, but you can still cocoon for your best night’s sleep.

3. Bed blanket

Yes, another layer.  Most of us like to feel snuggled in no matter what the season, so by adding a light blanket you get the cozy factor without the weight or heat.  Best of all, it can be folded back neatly in the morning and draped across the foot of the bed for a chic accent.  Check out the Boll and Branch cotton waffle weave options; they have a range of colors and patterns!
