Are swivel chairs right for me?
Swivel chairs are one of my favorite furniture pieces, and I love that so many of our clients are asking for them. We designed the modern look in the header image for a client’s family room; another client chose a more traditional style in their music room. Why are they so popular?
Versatility
Swivel chairs offer versatility; they work in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and even outdoors. If you’re thinking of outdated wooden desk chairs, think again. In a variety of materials, like fabric, leather, and rattan, swivel chairs fit any aesthetic, from traditional to modern to eclectic. These are a few of the designs we love!
Function
Swivel chairs also add coziness in large rooms or outdoor spaces. Group a few on the patio to create a chat area in the sun or place a pair in front of a fireplace to create conversation areas. This will help anchor your spaces and create structure in spots that could otherwise feel bare and uninviting. We love these Stanford swivel chairs we spotted at High Point Market.
Coziness
Best of all, they’re incredibly comfortable! Swivel chairs allow movement; you can turn towards the person with whom you’re speaking, or you can angle to better catch the light if you’re curled up with a magazine. I love placing a cozy swivel chair in the corner of a bedroom to create a little reading nook. We added a tailored, traditional chair to our client’s master bedroom redesign and the effect is beautiful! It lends a luxurious, finished touch, and let’s be honest – we like swiveling from side to side a little (or a lot).
