Trims: one of our favorite design elements!

Do you know one of our favorite design elements?  Hint: it’s something fabulous, has neverending options, and is the icing on the cake of our custom designs.  The answer?  Trims! Whether added to pillows, window treatments, or furniture, trims add a polished and unique look.

Where can you use trims?

The best of part of trims as a whole is that it encompasses so many different types and styles.  They run the gamut from traditional to modern, and can be sleek or whimsical.  They fall under different names depending on the design, although you might not know what’s meant by cording or tape trim.  This is where your interior designer will prove very helpful!  The wide variety of options means that you can customize your drapes or add a pop to a throw pillow.

Window treatments

When we spoke with Claudia at Urban Loft Window Treatments, she noted that “trim details are popular on Romans and tape banding on drapes.”  We’ve found that adding a simple, elegant trim to drapes, Roman shades, and cornices finishes it so beautifully.  Bonus: it makes the view from inside even better!

Furniture

When it comes to furniture and trims, the sky is pretty much the limit!  We love adding trims to the bottom of sofas for that truly customized look; it’s a great way to add life to a neutral sofa.  Also, chairs that have a band of trim running along face of the seat offer an unexpected pop!  Finally, a small accent cording on an upholstered bed adds interest and and elevated feel.

Throw pillows

Throw pillows are a great way to bring color and texture to a variety of spaces, from living rooms to bedrooms to porches.  Adding trim brings a sense of detail that enhances the pillow and the overall design of the room.  Fringe and tassels lend a touch of fun, while tape trim and banding give depth to edges and elevate the design on the face.

Bed linens

Yes, even your linens can be jazzed up with trims!  Imagine wowing your guests or feeling like you’re in a five star hotel every time you get into your own bed.  The Duet collection from Legacy Linens features fabulous embroidered tape.  Once you choose elevated linens, you may never want to go back to plain sheets again.

Lampshades

If you really want to make a statement, consider adding a band trim or fringe to a lampshade or two.  Give pizzazz to a floor lamp in the living room, pendant in the kitchen, or bedside lamp for reading.  When you say goodbye to the simple white drum shade, your personality will shine (yes, we just went there) through your lighting choices!
