Update your powder room

The powder room is an interesting space, because it’s one of the smallest in your home but also one of the hardest working.  From day-to-day usage for washing hands – especially this past year and a half – to being the most seen by guests, it’s a high traffic room.  If you’re wondering how to update your powder room, we have tips for you!

Four ways to update your powder room

Wallpaper

This is hands down our favorite way to elevate your powder room.  Whether you do one wall or have fun papering the whole room, wallpaper is a great way to give the room a whole new vibe.  Because it’s a smaller space, many of our clients are more confident making a statement with something fun or bold.  We selected a whimsical butterfly pattern in our Fairmount powder room to add an airy, cheerful feeling.

Lighting

Although powder rooms have a smaller footprint, it’s always a good idea to have two light sources if possible; both overhead and accent.  While the former is very functional, the latter creates a more welcoming atmosphere that is inviting to guests during parties and holidays.  We love adding sconces to flank your mirror if you have the space!  They add instant polish, as evidenced in our Wyndmoor powder room.

Statement vanity

Another way to marry form and function in a powder room is with a cool or custom vanity that makes a statement.  A vanity fulfills a purpose; its reason for existing is storage.  However, when you opt for a design with a unique color or gorgeous hardware, it feels luxurious.  Our West Chester clients asked us to create a custom vanity based on a design they’d seen, lacquered in a glossy deep blue.  This vanity gets so much love every time we post it on Instagram!

Artwork

Artwork is a fabulous way to add a touch of personality, no matter what your style.  Do you love black and white photography?  Add a trio of matted photos hung vertically on a narrow wall to create a sense of height.  More of a modern, abstract fan?  Bring some color into the space with fun prints.  If you really want to make a statement, hang a cool painting like our Rittenhouse clients did with this Roller original!
