Warm up at home with gold and brass

Gold and brass finishes add an elevated touch to any space.  Some prefer a dash of gilt while others enjoy a more dazzling shine, and we’ve layered this touch into many of our designs.  For us, it offers a chance to give our clients something special about their homes with a bit of welcoming, beautiful warmth.

Where can you incorporate gold and brass?

Really, anywhere!  One of the reasons we love using gold and brass in our designs is the soft glow and sophisticated warmth, but these aren’t reserved for “special” spaces.  Just like a pair of simple gold hoops is perfect for every day, so too are these finishes in your home.  (Think less Marie Antoinette and more Audrey Hepburn.)

Entry

Make a statement for guests – and for yourself! – with a gold-framed mirror or gilded chandelier in your entry.  It’s a small detail that adds refinement and beauty in the first space that you see when you come home.  You know what they say about first impressions; why shouldn’t that include you?

Living room

When we say “living room,” we’re also including gathering spaces like the family room, sitting room, or den.  You might think that gold or brass accents here would be out of place, but the opposite is true!  Blending them into the design through furniture or accessories adds warmth.  In our Monticello sitting room, the cocktail table’s subtle sheen of brass provides another layer of visual texture to the relaxed, inviting space.

Dining room

Another favorite place for adding lustrous accents?  The dining room!  More and more, we see people making use of their dining rooms every day.  Breakfast nooks and island seating are always popular, but we’ve found that clients enjoy having a designated space for sharing meals away from any distractions, even if it’s takeout.  A cool brass-framed mirror or interesting chandelier lend a pop of personality in this formerly-formal room.

Kitchen

We love mixing finishes in kitchens, especially when it’s stainless steel and brass.  The combination creates balance and adds depth to the design.  If you’re going to spend a lot of time in the kitchen – and this year has certainly been one with a LOT of time in the kitchen – it should be beautiful.  Our Wyndmoor kitchen strikes a beautiful contrast with its brass pendants and hardware paired with stainless appliances.

Laundry room

Speaking of rooms where we spend a lot of time, let’s not forget the laundry room.  Yes, it’s utilitarian at its core, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look fabulous while you’re fighting grass stains.  We enjoy problem-solving that blends beauty with function, and what better space than a laundry room?  Detergent, dryer balls, and other odds and ends are tucked behind cabinet doors accented by brass knobs, while the faucet gleams warmly above the sink in this pretty and purposeful space.
