West Chester kitchen and breakfast room

Our West Chester clients approached us with a need for an entire first floor redesign.  They wanted a fresh and bright look throughout, but the kitchen and breakfast room were particularly integral.  The latter was noted as a favorite spot for our clients, with its view of the backyard and pool.  They enjoy entertaining and cooking, especially in the summer.

The existing kitchen was dated and dark, with an awkward flow that made it feel disjointed.

We wanted to tie the breakfast area and the kitchen together stylistically, rather than having two unmoored spaces floating near each other.  We also wanted to take advantage of the amazing natural light and add features that were on the clients’ must have list.

How did we do this?  With a total makeover, from floor to ceiling, including an improved layout and reconfigured plan.  New hardwood flooring, cabinetry, lighting, backsplash, appliances, and surfaces came together for an incredible transformation!

The larger furniture style quartzite-topped island with seating for four features an integrated oven, with classic lantern style pendants overhead.

Tailored details like the custom coffee bar with storage and specialized organization add improved functionality.

For a couple that loves to entertain, we took a previously underutilized wall and turned it into a dream dry bar!

Cabinets with a mesh insert display drinkware, while clever undercounter cabinetry and drawers open to reveal a refrigerator drawer as well as assorted mixers and barware.  A rich walnut countertop and floating shelves add texture and depth.

The integrated wine storage  keeps a collection of chilled bottles ready for a quiet dinner at the adjacent breakfast table or a relaxed at-home cocktail hour in the den.

Finally, the breakfast room.  Our clients noted at the beginning of the design process that this was one of their favorite places in the house, so we had to make sure it was perfect.

The new round table feels more intimate and casual, but still polished.  Neutral tones feel light and fresh in the upholstered chairs and oversized pendant, while the subtly patterned area rug anchors the space.  Most importantly, the beautiful view is the focus through the doors, now framed by custom drapes.

Overall, we designed a new “heart” for the home with these three spaces that’s light, bright, and happy, just like our clients.  We can’t wait to share the rest of the first floor with you next week!
