William Heritage Winery

While we love residential design, commercial projects are equally exciting!  We loved working with the Heritage family to renovate the William Heritage Winery tasting room in Mullica Hill.  The result?  A welcoming, modern space for a unique experience!

The transformation entailed large changes.  For instance, we moved the entrance from its awkward location in the left corner to the center of the front wall for both aesthetics and better ease of movement.  The new upscale design includes a much larger tasting bar with more room for both staff and clientele.  Across from the tasting bar, two new standalone checkout stations feature a veneer of vintage Heritage orchard crates.  Clean lines are highlighted and repeated throughout the space, from the tongue-and-groove walls to the tasting bar’s tiled backsplash.

The most innovative feature was the custom cable display along the back wall, which showcases the winery’s premium offerings.  By piquing visitors’ interest, the display invites them closer.  Its proximity to the tasting bar encourages guests to sample the premium wines and learn more about them from the well-informed staff.  In addition, a members-only wine club offers specific wines that are unavailable to non-members, which is an enticing option for true wine lovers!

With the vineyards as the backdrop, it was important to include elements that tell the story behind the wines.  The use of stone and wood in the bar and walls suggest a connection between the interior and exterior operations of the winery, that one follows the other in a natural progression and the two are intertwined.  The tasting room feels large and open, like an extension of the outdoors.  Chandeliers reminiscent of honeycombs are a nod to the importance of pollination in the health of the vineyards.  Above the checkout stations, pendants with multi-faceted, handcrafted hammered “twigs” bring another vineyard element inside.

Finally, three large photos behind the bar evoke the stages of the winemaking process, from grape to cask to bottle.  By making these a focal point, we emphasize this history and reputation of the William Heritage Winery brand.  Through design, we tell a story that this experience, in this place, with this family, cannot be replicated elsewhere.
