Winter inspired accents to make your home cozy!
It seems like we were just welcoming fall, but winter has certainly descended upon us quickly! The good news is that we have tips to turn your home into the perfect refuge from Mother Nature. Our favorite winter inspired accents are seasonal ones that will last after the last “Happy New Year” is exchanged, and keep you cozy until spring returns!
Winter inspired home decor
The trick to refreshing for winter is to opt for easy swaps that aren’t tied to the holidays. That way, you can stay snug through January and February! The idea is to choose little things that make a big impact.
Hurricanes and lanterns
Candles add a soft glow that is so welcome during long winter nights. Try placing a few large pillars in hurricanes or lanterns to give you that warm light. Whether you prefer scented or unscented candles, they’re lovely in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. A word of caution – don’t leave lit candles unattended. Choose LED candles if you’ll be stepping away for a time.
Throws
Nothing is quite as comfy as wrapping yourself in a warm throw blanket on a cold day. We like to add a few extras in a basket during winter months so that you don’t have to share. Living, family, and rec rooms are even cozier if everyone has their own blanket!
Pops of color
When the sky has been gray for days and you don’t think the sun will ever come back, turn to your interiors for color and warmth. Rich jewel tones or vivid colors are an instant mood booster. You can bring color in through throw pillows, trays, linens, and tableware. Putting flowers or greenery in a brightly hued vase will add life to any space!
Houseplants
Speaking of bringing life indoors, don’t underestimate the positive effect of a few thriving green plants. Even if you have a thumb that’s more black than green, succulents, cacti, and palms literally breathe life into your home. They break down carbon dioxide and improve air quality; this is especially important when we have windows shut tight against the cold. Bear in mind that some plants are toxic to animals, so most veterinarians have a list of “no go” plants that will help you keep your pets safe!
Layered bedding
Go ahead and create a sleeping cocoon by piling on the bedclothes! For people who run cold, flannel sheets are often a winter favorite. If the thought of flannel gives you a hot flash, stick with cotton bedlinen, but add a heavier-weight duvet. A light quilt at the bottom of the bed can be pulled up if the temperature really drops overnight.
