Winter whites for your home

“Winter whites” aren’t just for fashion; these soft and subtle tones add texture and comfort to your home as well!  How can you up your at-home style game by incorporating them?  Keep reading to find out and grab some inspo!

Cozy winter whites

The trick to making white feel cozy, as opposed to stark and chilly, lies in texture and color variation.  To bring up fashion again, think of an oversized scarf or your go-to cold weather throw.  Just as wrapping yourself in that softness makes you feel warm, snug, and relaxed, adding a soft white brings that feeling to a room.

Kitchens

In kitchens, we often use a mix of crisp and creamy whites for texture and interest.  As they say, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and it affords us many options for introducing white: tile, millwork, surfaces, and paint can be used to create a tonal effect.  In addition, mixing in wood finishes along with interesting uses of color provides depth of contrast.  In our Malvern kitchen, the crisp white cabinetry is balanced by the softer honed quartzite with its subtle graining, along with elegantly simple window treatments like a draped Roman shade.  The result is an elevated but cheerful and welcoming space for this family.

Bedrooms

Nothing feels quite as luxurious as an all-white bedroom when done right.  Again, to keep the feeling warm, look to layers.  A bed piled with throw pillows, a sophisticated area rug, and elegant textured accents invite hibernation.  Here, we opted for different shades of white to add depth and a sense of sanctuary.

Living rooms and family rooms

Another wonderful space for soft winter whites?  Gathering areas like living rooms and family rooms.  Our palette for this room was focused on bringing in openness and light while feeling like a place where our clients could enjoy sitting and chatting with friends.  We upholstered the comfortable chairs in a subtly textured performance fabric and added an off white area rug as contrast against the hardwood floor.  Custom floor-to-ceiling sheers in ecru diffuse the natural light through the window.

Bathrooms

White is a classic in bathrooms and powder rooms, particularly when it comes to tile and surfaces.  One of the ways we like to create layers of interest is by using different types of white stone and tile with subtle veining or whispers of color.  Calacatta and Carrara are favorites, and we combined variations of Calacatta in this upscale bath.  The gray adds texture and softens the overall vibe.

How do you feel about winter whites?  Do you love them as much as we do?
