Wyndmoor family home

We can all agree that a move is a large undertaking in any circumstance.  Add in a move from a Center City condo to a single family home in the suburbs in need of an addition and the process becomes even more daunting.  We teamed up with Kate Cleveland Architect to create the perfect Wyndmoor family home for our clients!

Designing a family home

With two children under 3, the time was right for this family of four to make a change to a quieter area with more room for their growing children. They found a wonderful home in the perfect location, but a pre-move addition was necessary. It was no small feat and we were honored to be trusted with designing our client’s home.

The two-story addition to the home allowed for a reconfiguration of the existing first floor plan.  The new layout includes an office, powder room, new family room and dining room, and a larger kitchen.  The new addition included a combo living and dining room, with a master suite above with his and her closets.  The addition is then punctuated with a new wraparound porch that overlooks the expansive back yard.  It’s perfect for relaxing in the rocking chairs and watching the kids play!

A great deal of planning went into the design layout and addition in order to give them ample room to entertain, spend time together as a family, and live in a space designed with their lifestyle in mind. We began with neutrals and then layered in color throughout – especially blue – for a preppy, coastal vibe.  For a family with young children, performance fabrics and comfort were a must in the family and dining rooms.

Their love of blue informed the design of other spaces as well, like the kitchen’s painted blue cabinetry by Village Handcrafted Cabinetry and the fun-yet-upscale powder room.  We love when clients go bold with elements like wallpaper, millwork, and art!

The new master bath features a marble herringbone floor with an all marble shower.  The lighting, accents and fixtures add an elevated but understated touch.  The natural stone in a gray and white color palette keep the look from being austere and add depth and texture.

We had fun with their girls’ bath, adding hot pink accents in the mirrors and custom window treatments by Urban Loft Window Treatments.  The vibrant shade keeps the space from feeling twee, and instead creates a chic effect.  The luxe touches, such as the sconces, faucets, and countertop pair with classic elements like the penny tile and white vanity for a timeless space that will grow with them.

The laundry room and mudroom feature practical but elegant custom storage and millwork that feel anything but utilitarian.  We believe so strongly in making every space in your home beautiful, even the “working” spaces.

Last but not least, our clients often work outside of typical business hours.  For this reason, it was important for them to have a dedicated workspace in the home.  We switched gears a bit and opted for a moodier palette that’s balanced by the natural light from both the windows and the entry just outside the door.  Everything from the fabrics and finishes to the walls and millwork feels rich and deep, yet balanced.
