2019 Holiday Gift Guide

For the feel-good fashionista

When it comes to a one of a kind accessory, we are in love with the unique clutches made by Little Bags. Big Impact!  Anna Welsh makes beautiful bags from reclaimed fabric, including fabric samples that we donate from our library.  In addition to creating fun, stylish designs, Anna donates a portion of the proceeds to Tree House Books to promote childhood literacy in Philadelphia.  Best of all, no one else will have the same bag!

For the candle collector

We all have a candle lover in our lives (and after our recent outing to Wax + Wine, we confess that we might be the candle lovers).  With the prospect of another long, cold Philadelphia winter looming, anything to add warmth and chase away the doldrums is welcome.  Local home furnishings company Lostine teamed up with Philadelphia chandlery – how underused is that word, by the way? – Skeem Design to offer a gorgeous print block candle.  The hibiscus water‘s notes of jasmine and moss are perfect for keeping the winter blues at bay.  Pair the candle with a Poetry match bottle, like this one silk screened with the quote, “Keep a little fire burning; however small, however hidden.”

For the art and architecture aficionado

Philadelphia is home to an amazing art and museum scene.  In 2012, the Barnes Foundation moved into a new home on the Parkway.  The building and grounds are as much works of art as the collection inside.  The museum was designed with the mission of the Foundation in mind, “to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.”  Give the gift of appreciation when you wrap up The Architecture of the Barnes Foundation, a gorgeous hardcover volume perfect for a coffee table or library.

For the proud plant parent

Some of us have the talent to make plants thrive (like Andrea), while some of us can make a succulent die by looking at it (that’s Nicole).  We believe that the green thumbs among us should have planters as beautiful as what they contain!  Local artist Katie Rider crafts gorgeous made-to-order porcelain planters in her South Philadelphia studio.  Her black and white designs are perfect for showcasing plants and blooms.
