Textured wallcoverings: Not your grandmother’s wallpaper!
Have you been looking around your home and wondering how to change things up? Maybe you want to give a room a facelift, but you want something more than a different coat of paint, and “wallpaper” makes you think of dainty roses. We’re here to tell you that there’s a perfect solution! Textured wallcoverings add depth and dimension to any space, whether big or small.
Textured wallcoverings? What does that mean?
Simply put, this refers to wallpaper that has a textured finish for added interest. Here’s a quick breakdown (although there are SO many other options!):
Grasscloth is made from grasses, plants, and vegetable fibers that create heavy texture. They can often have gold and cream hues, although some also have colorful undertones. Woven wallcoverings are made up of pulp fibers in a basket weave pattern; this creates a textured, small-scale pattern.
Cork wallcoverings consist of harvested bark, and may have metallic accents. They’re a great way to add an organic feeling to a space. Linen has a smooth, light texture with linear qualities, while silk’s subtle texture features shiny threads that reflect light.
Vinyl wallcoverings are incredibly versatile and can be any texture! Their durability and easy maintenance are ideal for both home and commerical uses. Vinyl allows for a more cost effective way to achieve a natural look.
Aren’t ready to take the plunge? Think about adding it as an accent wall behind the bed or above the fireplace.
Sounds fabulous! Where and how can I add them?
The right product for the right space is an important factor. Natural material isn’t a good choice in rooms with heavy moisture and condensation, like bathrooms or kitchens. However, a vinyl wallcovering that resembles grasscloth, linen, or silk is the perfect solution! Try it in a bathroom, mudroom, or laundry room. Your walls will look fabulous and withstand moisture, dirt, and smudges.
On the other hand, natural wallcoverings work well in cozy spaces like a sitting room, media room, or den. Covering all of the walls in your bedroom creates a soft, luxurious ambiance. Another way to boost the fab factor: choose a wallcovering with a metallic hint that catches the light. We also love adding it to dressing rooms and walk in closets for a refined touch. Adding the subtlety of silk to a dining room lends an elegant touch, especially if used above a chair rail for contrast.
Are you daydreaming about the possibilities in your own home? We’d love to get started on the process of helping you to choose the perfect option!
