Designed To Share: Glenna Speaks to Help Other Designers Succeed

The venerated magazine Aspire Design & Home recently asked Glenna and other design business leaders to share some of GSID’s smartest tips and business strategies as part of a program to help other designers build their business muscles, elevate their firms, and learn from some of the best in the biz. Billed as the Aspire Design Tour, additional sponsors Arhaus, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Fox & Roach Realtors, Natuzzi and Ethan Allen brought interested designers from around the region to hear from Glenna and an all-star panel for a day of no-off-limits-topics—a concept the audience took quite literally. By the end of the program, participants were exhausted, exhilarated and empowered with new knowledge and best practices.

If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, All Roads Will Lead You There

In a riff on Lewis Carroll’s quote, much of the conversation revolved around finding the best route through the complexity of what may seem like a straightforward business. Glenna, the undisputed champion for working from a strong foundation of proven business processes, likened the design business to a hike in a beautiful woods—it’s all about the pretty, the feeling, the warm and fuzzy until you’re lost in the forest, every tree looks the same and, oops, you didn’t bring the GPS. Offering up tips to keep those designer-hikers from wondering which mushrooms are edible or how to start a signal fire, Glenna and her fellow experts, Gail Davis, Nile Johnson  and Patricia DiLullo, shared hard-won advice, savvy practices and a few humorous suggestions for ultimate success.

The lovely Arhaus store in KOP was a delightful host. Thank you!

Yes, It Really Is All About You

We mean You, Dear Reader. That’s one of the practical but overlooked philosophies central to a design business. Interior design professionals talk about ‘designing for the client.’ That is an imperative. Moreover, a truly successful designer builds his or her business around the client—seamless communications and buttoned-up processes align to create trust and confidence. Internal systems provide top-flight project management. And, long-held vendor relationships mean preferred pricing and delivery times. Add these to the design pro’s incredible creativity and you have the recipe for a brilliant client experience.

Design savvy + professional processes + communications = a win for all

What an honor it was for Glenna to be a part of such an esteemed program. All of us at GSID are proud of what we do and excited to share our experiences with the design community and our beloved clients.
