Classic blues
If you’re familiar with our projects, you know that classic blues find their way into most of them. Blue can be a soft neutral or a bold pop, but its versatility makes it such a favorite for both us and our clients! Here are a few of of our favorite ways we’ve layered blues into our designs.
Fabric
Fabric, fabric, fabric – we can do so many amazing things with fabric. Whether it’s selecting a solid blue for a family-friendly sectional or a cool pattern for host chairs in a dining room, there’s no end to the ways we can weave blue hues throughout seating and more.
Cabinetry and millwork
This is one of the most popular ways that we bring blue into a space. Our New Hope kitchen is a big hit, but we really love the effect in the butler’s pantry. With a reclaimed panel from India framed by the lower millwork and airy, double glass-fronted cabinetry above, the blue in this space enhances the way these elements play off of each other.
Tile
Classic blues always work when it comes to tile, particularly in a kitchen backsplash as a way to add interest. The hand-painted tiles behind the range in our Malvern kitchen have quickly become a favorite!
Wallcoverings and wallpaper
For a big pop in a small space, wallpaper always wows. For our Dresher great room, the clients had a recessed bar in an alcove; we added a mirror to the back and wrapped a subtly-patterned blue and white wallcovering around the interior of the nook. This small detail adds a big sophistication factor.
Window treatments
We believe that custom window treatments are an instant way to elevate your space. You may not think about them at the start of the design process, but once you see how they tie a whole room together, you know that you need them. In Malvern, we used a pretty tape trim to accent the kitchen shade and breakfast room drapes – a subtle tie-in to the backsplash that feels polished.
We also love a patterned drape, and this classic in our West Chester home office hits all the right notes of elegant simplicity. Adding side chairs upholstered in a smoky blue velvet completed the vibe!
What’s your favorite way to incorporate this classic hue?
