Fabulous family rooms

We love spaces where everyone can gather together, and we’ve designed some fabulous family rooms for our clients.  These are areas where they can gather for everything from movie nights to playdates, and even Super Bowl parties!  Versatility is key, but comfort and function are our main priorities as family rooms are the most utilized rooms in our homes, even more than kitchens.

Four fabulous family rooms

Our Bryn Mawr family room was designed with livability in mind, as the family had three young children at the time (and have since welcomed a fourth).  While the parents get breakfast ready or clean up after dinner, they can keep an eye on the kids while they watch TV or play on the floor thanks to the open floor plan and sight lines that we developed.  This room fills with natural light and feels grounded in the beautiful gardens that surround it, thanks to generous windows.  We echoed those elements with paint that uplifts the light, art and furnishings that nod to nature, and an overall openness that evokes space to breathe along with room to romp.

For our Oreland clients, the family room is truly that; they host frequent dinners and weekend get-togethers for their large extended families.  The vibe here is distinctly California casual, the tone that they specifically requested.  This is a place where teenagers can pile on the sofa to watch TV while the adults hang out on the kitchen barstools and chat.  Everyone is welcome and feels at home.  The space always looks put-together but the furnishings are flexible enough for the family to configure for ultimate usability.

Our New Hope Farmhouse family room is also geared towards entertaining and relaxing, but the homeowners are in a different season of life with grown children.  When its just the two of them, the couple spends quiet time here with their two dogs close by. However, when it’s time to host one of their famed holidays or open houses, the space fills with guests, conversation, and laughter.  Layers of texture combine to feel elegant and inviting no matter what the season.

Finally, our  West Chester clients love their den that is both bright and cozy. The mixed wood tones here feel warm and inviting – handy, since the bar is adjacent to the space! Gray and blue upholstery balances softness against the crisp white millwork.  The focus here is on plush seating for a room that is part entertaining space, part quiet reading area, and part TV room.
