Main Line Today: Villanova family and breakfast rooms

We were honored when Main Line Today reached out about our Villanova family and breakfast rooms and asked to feature the project!  You can read the article here, and we wanted to share some of our favorite excerpts from the piece.  Our clients were kind enough to talk about their experience.

Why did they choose a designer?

“With demanding careers in healthcare and investment management, the couple had little time to research resources. So Stone scoured her expansive network to find unique custom pieces that elevated the style of the home.”

Like many of our clients, this couple juggles a lot between work and family and just didn’t have the bandwidth to tackle a large design project.  We took the mental load and created a cohesive, comprehensive design that fulfilled their wish list.  Cool pieces added a dash of their personality, from furnishings to accents.  We love the detail of the mirror that hangs on the newly-wainscoted wall!

The intent behind the design

“The couple’s transitional style is a seamless combination of contemporary and traditional, with clean lines and gently rounded surfaces. ‘We wanted a great place to come home to—but kid friendly,’ says the owner. ‘Glenna helped us strike a balance with flair.’”

At the heart of it, we very much created the family and breakfast room with the family’s lifestyle in mind.  Aesthetics and style are important, but so too is a sense of home.  We often talk with our clients about how to create a design for them that feels livable while also looking good.  In a space like a family room, you should feel like you can snuggle on the couch to watch a movie together.  This is where performance fabrics and quality furnishings come in!  Your home should work for you the way you want it to.

The breakfast room also has a clear view of the television, which most parents of young children can agree comes in handy at times.  The table’s round shape creates a feeling of closeness with definition, which was important as we wanted this to feel like its own space.  However, its tones and textures flow into the family room and back, which creates harmony.
