Serene patterns
Last week, we talked about creating calming spaces at home. Today we’re taking a bit of a deeper dive into the ways we’ve layered serene patterns into our designs in order to bring a peaceful air into our projects. Pattern can be used in a variety of ways to subtly infuse energy into a room.
How serene patterns lend a sense of balance
While we love using statement patterns in our work, we equally appreciate using quieter patterns to create a sense of harmony. This allows us to give our clients restful spaces in the comfort and sanctuary of their homes! Here are a few of our favorites.
Our Dresher great room has oversized windows that look out onto the backyard and woods behind the home. We wanted to add definition with window treatments without distracting from the overall view. This subtle gray tonal design lends just the right touch of coziness.
One of the most soothing sounds in the world is the gentle crash of waves against a shore. In our coastal-inspired Wyndmoor dining room, the host chairs feature a stylized wave pattern to evoke the beachy vibe. Its rich blue feels grounding and natural, and helped to establish that mental connection to a place of comfort and calm.
One of the key design elements in our Washington Square West living room design is a pair of antique Chinese chairs acquired by our clients in their travels. They enjoy quiet mornings in this space, sipping coffee and catching up on reading, so we focused on layering in neutrals in this room to create softness. We added a pair of custom throw pillows with a painterly folk motif in muted, earthy tones as a nod to the inspiration behind the room.
Which of these speaks to your sense of peace and serenity the most? We’d love to hear in the comments!
