Small space solutions
In many of our designs, our clients ask us to create small space solutions. Thinking outside of the box to find ways to maximize every inch of a space lets us flex those design muscles and find an intersection between style and functionality. Looking for inspiration? Well, look no further!
Our favorite small space solutions
No matter the size of your home, most people have a corner, alcove, or closet that could be used more effectively. Sometimes, such as with a renovation, we move walls and create a completely new solution. In other cases, our design experience allows us to see a space with a different perspective and envision a new layout or furniture piece that solves a storage or capacity issue.
Willows Park kitchen
One of the driving factors behind this kitchen redesign was our clients’ love of cooking together. The previous layout was cramped and awkward, which we remedied by a complete reconfiguration. In particular, we wanted to make sure that every inch of the kitchen was both beautiful and functional. With a clever custom built in, their treasured cookbook collection is easily accessible while tucked out of sight.
Graduate Hospital den
City living brings both rewards and challenges, and one of the challenges often includes finding a way for a space to serve more than one purpose. In our Graduate Hospital townhome, we crafted a bright den with a cozy sofa, a television, and a second turntable for the clients’ vinyl collection. However, this room also needed to double as a guest room, so the cozy sofa is actually a custom queen sized sofa bed! Note the end table that can also serve as a convenient nightstand.
Fairmount living room
In Fairmount, our clients have a generously sized living room for a brick home dating back to the 19th century, with gorgeous high ceilings. Our design included a place for their prized baby grand piano, and we needed a place for extra seating that didn’t interfere or feel crowded. Our solution? A pair of lovely, geometric stools that tuck under the console table when not in use. Their upholstered cushions are incredibly comfortable!
Philadelphia kitchen addition
This project came with a small footprint and some special requests, two of which were adding a powder room and bringing the laundry room up from the basement. By thinking outside of the box (literally), we turned the back porch into an addition with all new walls, flooring, electric, plumbing, etc. This allowed us to put in the new powder room and a compact laundry with a stacked washer and dryer. For cohesion with the adjoining (and also renovated) kitchen, we installed the same cabinetry with a matching quartz top to provide storage for laundry needs, garden tools, and a surface for folding laundry or holding groceries before they’re put away.
As you can tell, we love a challenge! Creating specific small space solutions with your needs in mind is one more way that we tailor your design to you.
