Color Trends: 2018

Color trends are one of the most exciting elements of design. It was no surprise to us to when both Sherwin-Williams and Pantone announced jewel tones as their colors of the year. Bold hues are making a comeback! Here’s our take on the best color trends this year and tips to incorporate them into your home.

Metallic gold accents on fabrics

Gold isn’t just for hardware and lighting; we’re loving it in fabrics as well.  From shimmery threads woven through elegant sheer drapery or metallic touches on leather or bouclé, we’re all about the shine.  A glint of gold instantly elevates any room.

Jewel tones

The vibrancy of jewel tones is refreshing, and using them as accents brings life to a space without being overwhelming.  Teal, emerald, and merlot look fabulous in tile, drapery, and throw pillows – like their gemstone counterparts, these shades are perfect accessories!

Navy and indigo as neutrals

When it comes to color trends, grays have been a favorite neutral for a few years.  What’s next?  Going dark, but keeping it rich with navy and indigo.  The depth of those shades works just as well in both a formal sitting room or an industrial studio loft.  The richness of both navy and indigo keeps them from skewing too dark, but they add unexpected contrast to walls, rugs, and furniture.

Mustardy golds

Are you thinking of the 1970s Harvest Gold?  Think again!  This trend is more in line with that luxe brass that we love so much.  The warmth of mustard keeps it from veering into the overly bright realm while lending contrast to neutral or moody palettes.  Consider an area rug with goldenrod tones for a little boost!

Cream

To balance out both dark and bold, cream and ivory tones are a softer choice over stark white.  Off-white tile brings warmth to a kitchen or powder room, while velvet or wool upholstery in cream adds a luxurious touch in the bedroom.  Of course, you can never go wrong with subtly textured wallcoverings in ivory!
