Classic patterns
Taking classic patterns and mixing them in interesting ways to balance a design is a GSID hallmark. In doing so, we add a sense of timelessness to each unique project without feeling staid or boring. By incorporating a variety of design elements – everything from rugs and window treatments to furnishings and tile – we develop designs that feel fresh and elevated for years to come!
Five favorite classic patterns
Stripes are a favorite across interior design and fashion for good reason. The clean lines suit a range of styles from traditional to modern. In our Lafayette Hill kitchen, striped throw pillows are effortlessly casual on the custom banquette.
Striped chairs in a neutral palette combine comfort with a tailored aesthetic in our West Chester den. We paired the chairs with lumbar pillows in another classic pattern, houndstooth. Did you know that examples of houndstooth date back to the Bronze Age? Talk about timeless!
One of the most popular patterns that we layer into our designs is herringbone. GSID fun fact: herringbone stair runners are some of the most loved images on our Instagram feed. The enduring simplicity of the pattern offers just the right touch of visual interest.
We’ve also used tile to create herringbone patterns, such as in the marble tile fireplace surround in our Bryn Mawr family room. It’s a very subtle way to elevate the relaxed, family-centric space.
Finally, we love a good plaid. The broadloom carpet in our West Chester office features a large-scale plaid that grounds the space perfectly, and creates a fabulous contrast against the furnishings and the trellis pattern on the custom drapes!
Which of these classic patterns is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
