Unique design elements

Unique design elements appear in so many of the spaces that we create.  We love tailoring our designs to fit the needs and wants of each client, and it’s such a special way to draw in their personality and lifestyle.  Whether we select them for form, function, or both, the details reflect the people who live in these homes every day.

Some make a statement, while others are more subtle.  One thing is for sure: they add a layer of interest and texture that elevates the entire design!

In our New Hope kitchen, we created a custom waterjet mosaic tile backsplash as the focal point of the space.  The colors we selected were inspired by the blue and gray of the leathered quartzite countertops, and the effect is stunning.  We’ll never get tired of these photos.

Another focal point in this project is the incredible reclaimed vintage panel from India that we found at a local architectural salvage warehouse.  We integrated it into the front of the butler’s pantry that you see in the header image.  How cool is that?

A more understated but nevertheless unique detail is in our New Hope Farmhouse family room.  When we worked with our clients to design and select their window treatments, they had one big request: no jangling curtain rings.  They did not want to hear metal scraping on wood, and we completely understood.  The solution? Leather-wrapped curtain rings that glide over the rod without a sound.  It’s a small touch that makes a big difference, both practically and aesthetically.

Our Rittenhouse project could easily be the object of this entire post, but if we had to pick the most unique of the design elements in this home?  The original Donald Roller Wilson painting in the powder room wins this one.   It’s completely one of a kind and totally unexpected.

The gallery wall in our West Chester living room is at the other end of the spectrum, but just as special.  Each map is of a place that holds sentimental value to the couple who live here, and we customized them with a mapmaker to get just the right blues.  The wall tells a story of their decades of shared history, and nothing is quite as unique as that.
